Cancer eats away at their bodies and hardships make matters worse:
In the liberated northern Syria, where the earth has closed in on its inhabitants, there is no prosperous and comfortable life as it is very difficult to make living here. The majority of the population live in poor financial conditions, since most of them are displaced and there are too few job opportunities available for them amid rising living costs. People suffer from the bitterness of both poverty and needing others, but there is a group of them that suffers from two things, not “poverty and old age” as it is known in the language, but rather “poverty and illness”! And it is not like any disease, it is “cancer” whose risks are known to everyone, so how can those who live in such conditions face this humanitarian catastrophe?
Too many obstacles, one of which is "borders":
Positivity is very crucial for cancer patients in order to minimize their fears, but it has been decreed for them that they had to face various obstacles that delayed their treatment, one of which was that they failed to enter Turkey to receive the necessary treatment such as radiation therapy and other treatments which are not available in the the Syrian liberated areas that lack the necessary medical equipment. After they were given permission to enter Turkey, many of patients thought that their problems are over, forgetting that they will be in need of medical and living costs once they enter Turkey, including the costs of operations, radiotherapy
$300, injections to stabilize immunity before and after the dose, the cost of them amounts to $66, and medicines...etc.
How can poor families secure these high costs of treatment and perhaps most of them have left tents? Add to that the expenses of transportation and food, the difficulty of securing housing, and so on...
In response to their need, our group was there :
It was necessary to stand side by side with civil society organizations, stand by those who are tired, and to provide them with as much help as we could, especially the moral one because trying to help them makes them happy as well!
Efforts combined to serve them, so we were able to meet some of their needs through providing those who go out for treatment in Turkey with cash in Syria, a BIM card in Turkey (a card with a financial balance, through which its owner can buy foodstuffs), because as we mentioned, they need a lot of money there, a modest food package that accompanies them during their journey, and contrast materials for magnetic resonance imaging.
We also seek to secure housing for them in Turkey and means of transportation that take them from hospitals to their residence or place of treatment.
