Education in Conflict Zones: Plant the Flowers of Hope on the Hard Rocks of Despair:

Introduction::
The right to education is often ignored during wars and conflicts, and this right may not be considered as a source of immediate concern like other human rights, but it is very important during humanitarian crises and disasters and after they pass away as the disruption of education affects the possibility of providing stability and internal peace for children and adults and their return to the normal situation, and depriving them of education makes them unwilling to contribute to the social and economic recovery of their country, and this harms the ability to build a strong and stable society that overcomes the effects of war and sets out to build a cohesive society and a recovering country little by little.

Education protects generations:
Education provides children in emergency situations with life-saving information, increases their awareness of their rights and responsibilities, develops their capabilities, improves their skills and makes them well prepared and ready for any incidents that may threaten their lives. The loss of their right to education makes them an easy target as they may be exploited in difficult and dangerous professions, or they may be recruited by armed groups. It is not possible to guarantee the right to education for every child in conflict zones without protecting education itself. The process of protecting education includes a number of goals that must be met such as promoting the social and emotional development of students to create an appropriate, constructive and safe learning environment that takes into account the conditions they have experienced under the harsh conditions of war in addition to a continuous pursuit to understand the psychological state of each child. The exacerbation of the out-of-school children's crisis in Syria:
UNICEF indicated in March 2022 that about five million children have been born in Syria since the beginning of the conflict in March 2011 they know nothing but war. Eleven years later, the crisis still causes them physical and psychological scars and they still live in fear of violence, landmines and explosive remnants of war in many regions of Syria.

Lack of education and child labor:
The phenomenon of child labour spreads among more than 75% of Syrian families, and about half of these children provide a joint or single source of income for the family according to a study conducted by the Borgen Project. The spread of this phenomenon made children more vulnerable to exploitation and harassment as cheap or unpaid labour . The United Nations report issued in 2021 documented more than 4,700 incidents of physical harassment of children in Syria between July 2018 and June 2020. Also the percentage of Syrian child labour has doubled as the number of Syrian refugee children who are working has more than doubled between 2019 and 2021, reaching 27,825 children, the majority of whom are males.

Providing opportunities to return to school and restore hope:
After a comprehensive study of the conditions of the displaced Syrians, Hathi Hayati Voluntary Group , has focused through the plans it made during the implementation of Al-Hayat Village1 project and the beginning of the implementation of the second village on providing opportunities to return to school for Syrian children to reduce the number of students who drop out of school , as it provided formal school education for more than 1,500 students aged 6-15 in both primary and intermediate stages in Al-Hayat Village School which consists of three storeys . The school also contains special facilities such as two laboratories, an activity room, and administrative rooms and it provides educational services to the residents of the village and the neighboring camps.

Concerning the secondary stage, Hathi Hayati Group worked to open Al-Hayat Educational Center in Idlib Governorate to support and rehabilitate students who dropped out of school, return them to the educational system and prepare them academically to take the high school exam (baccalaureate). The center includes more than 200 students, who were forced by the conditions of the ongoing war in Syria to drop out of school, whether due to displacement, work, loss of the family's breadwinner, or due to the lack of financial cost to complete their education.The center offers completely free and intensive courses for the basic subjects of both literary and scientific branches. The courses include: (Arabic - English - Maths - Physics - Chemistry - Philosophy - Geography and History). The students of the institute have achieved outstanding successes and excel in the region.

In order to help children spend their time doing what may benefit them and compensate for what they lost through recreational summer projects in Al-Hayat Village , Hathi Hayati carried out many projects and plans and provided alternative solutions including the establishment of Al-Hayat Summer Club, which includes sports activities, craft games, Quranic sessions and recreational trips in addition to a swimming pool which accommodates more than 400 children.

The importance of education during conflict:
Food, health, shelter and clean water often receive a great deal of attention and come first in the priorities of humanitarian action, while the institutions that give education a great deal of importance decrease and thus children grow up without the basic knowledge necessary to create a society that enjoys peace and economic and political stability.
Hathi Hayati Group announced earlier the beginning of registration for the university scholarship "Teach Me Fund 2022 " to provide support and pay tuition fees for dozens of university students in northern Syria.
