Alternative solutions for confronting a new enemy for the displaced

The suffering of the Syrian displaced people increases every year with the changing weather and the beginning of a new chapter of tragedy. And with the scorching heat of summer, there is no means of cooling and air conditioning in the plastic-insulated tents which protect them from neither the scorching heat of summer nor the snow of winter and this makes the conditions get worse and the lives of thousands of displaced people in the random camps difficult especially in light of the temperatures exceeding 45 C in the country.

The displaced people are trying to find alternatives to alleviate the extreme heat during the bitter displacement and the harsh conditions they live in .They have only one choice in these circumstances which is to face the extreme heat by taking a bath wearing their clothes to feel cold. On the other hand, some families need to bath their children every half an hour to help them withstand the high temperatures.

And with the population growth because of the continuous waves of displacement, camps became overcrowded with the displaced people and these camps lack the basic services, hygiene and drinking water in addition to the hardship of preserving food from spoiling and the bad sewerage systems.
These conditions led to the spread of illnesses among large numbers of the population of the camps especially children due to the heat of summer such as vomiting, diarrhea and gastritis.

And in order to provide a space of hope for the displaced people and help them adapt to the hardships and the challenges they are experiencing , Hathi Hayati Group came up with several alternative solutions to alleviate the sufferings of families and contributed through summer project package to stand by the population of the camps.

Solutions and recreational activities for children {water camp}
Our first initiative was to establish the water camp which focused on establishing primitive swimming pools in simple ways to alleviate the heat of summer and to entertain children during high temperatures. Our teams provided large trucks of water and large plastic containers which cost 2 $ for a child while the total cost of the activity was 200 $ to draw smiles and alleviate the heat with creative activities in the squares of the camps which our team can reach.

A drop of life which revives soul [ Soukia Al-Hayat project]
Because access to drinking water is one of the biggest problems which displaced people face in summer, our team worked to provide cold water to alleviate the effect of high temperatures caused by direct sunlight on the tents through ‘Soukia Al-Hayat Factory‘ project which provides an alternative solution by producing and distributing ice blocks to more than 360 families a day . Each family costs about 0.35$ while the total operating cost is about 120$ a day. Clean and iced drinking water will reach each tent due to your generous donations and contributions in the extreme heat.

Our team also attached creative ideas to ‘ Soukia Al-Hayat ‘ project that honor beneficiaries and provide them with fresh summer fruit [ both kinds of watermelon – bananas –apples - ice ] which are put into a good box and given to each family so that they reach their tents fresh and cold. Through your contribution of 5$ we will provide one family with a basket of summer fruit.

Fun and useful activities to develop children's skills and abilities (Al-Hayat Summer Club):
the other hand, Hathi Hayati Group worked on preparing plans for summer in Al-Hayat Village , which it contributed to its establishment, and established Al-Hayat summer club, which includes sports activities, craft games, Quranic sessions, recreational trips, and a swimming pool which accommodates more than 400 children, with a contribution of about $0.65 for a child and a monthly cost of 250$ .
